New “Drag-and-Follow” Facebook, MySpace and Twitter Widgets from Netvibes
With the rapid growth of real-time content and activity feeds from sources like Facebook and Twitter, many people are struggling to keep track of multiple friends and interests that change day-to-day. Netvibes, the leading personalization platform for the Web, today launched a novel solution and industry first: drag-and-follow widgets. New Facebook, MySpace and Twitter widgets now enable users to instantly create new widgets to follow new interests simply by dragging and dropping any feed item to their personalized page.
“The key to the future of the real-time Web is figuring out how to manage our daily flow of information and better keep track of new topics as they come and go,” said Netvibes CEO Freddy Mini. “Users’ interests aren’t static, so widgets and startpages shouldn’t be either. Netvibes self-replicating widget technology is an important first step towards building the next generation of dynamic widgets and real-time dashboards that evolve just as fast as you do.”
The first widgets to showcase this new technology include new drag-and-follow Facebook, MySpace and Twitter widgets. Now users can instantly create separate new widgets to follow any interesting new conversation, topic or friend they find in their activity feeds, simply by dragging and dropping items onto their Netvibes personalized page. For example, if a user finds an interesting topic from their Twitter feed, they can click and drag that feed item to spawn a new Twitter widget to follow just that specific topic.
Self-replicating widget technology also opens up a whole new world of possibilities for widget developers and publishers. Soon, users will be able to click any content or feed item to create a new customized widget to follow similar items. Now for the first time, brands and publishers can automatically adapt their content to match the interests of their individual users–even as those interests change on a day-to-day basis.
Netvibes drag-and-follow widgets are the first step towards helping users better manage their personal, real-time Web. Last week at the TechCrunch Real Time Stream CrunchUp, Netvibes also previewed a new live feed reader and instant update architecture to make RSS real-time. In the coming months, Netvibes will launch these tools–along with many others–to give users the ultimate real-time dashboards for their personal Web.
